Eurovision 2009
Today was the final part of the contest and I have to admit that I was surprised by the results. I didn't expect Norway to win, but they were really good so I can't object to that. :)

Still, it's a pity that my other personal favourites didn't even come close to winning. I really liked the singer from Russia. The song was deeply emotional and it's really sad to realize that its message wasn't understood by people in other countries (I blame it on language. They should have made an English version of the lyrics). When I watched the gradual aging of the singer on the screens behind her and her subsequent turning into the "mother" she was singing about accompanied by the heart-wrenching chorus of "mama" and "time is like water" made me shiver with suppressed emotions. I can't really say anything good about Ukraine though. Does it make me a bad person, the fact that I'm not much of a patriot in this? :) No, I don't think so. There were many other good singers from different countries that I believe were worthy of the 1st prize: United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Malta, Denmark, Albania and others. Still, Norway won by a landslide and next year it will be their turn to organize the contest.
I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the whole show. I think Russia did a wonderful job organizing it - in fact, it was the best I've seen in 7 or 8 years that I've been watching Eurovision. http://www.eurovision.tv/
